On 24 October 2022, anyone with an interest in brain research will have a unique opportunity to meet Nobel Laureate Professor Edvard Moser who will visit Aarhus University and give a Nobel Laurate Talk on the brain’s inner GPS.
She will be continuing the work on discovering the regulation mechanism of the human flippase ATP8B1. From their previous results published in eLife, they suspect ATP8B1 activity to be regulated through phosphorylation. Through Cryo-EM and biochemical assays, they wish to further explore the effect of kinase mediated phosphorylation of the terminal regions of ATP8B1. She will additionally be working on establishing expression and purification of the orphan transporter SLC12A8 to enable structural and functional studies on the pursuit of identifying the substrate of the transporter.
Daniel Sejer Christensen will be working as the new laboratory assistant in the Membrane Laboratories, at Dept. Molecular Biology and Genetics. Daniel wrote his bachelor thesis in Nissen Group and will be working as laboratory assistant alongside his studies. He will be assisting with practical routine matters in the laboratories, such as preparing buffers and media, producing stock solutions, and filling up consumables in the laboratory.
An interview with the current DANEMO communications coordinator, Karen Bech-Pedersen and administrative program coordinator for DANEMO, Maria Thykær Jensen at DANDRITE, about the first years accomplishments and future outlook of the DANDRITE hosted, communication platform and research support initiative, DANEMO.
Team Leader Hanne Poulsen and her team studying P2P CPP has recieved a grant from ODIN. The P2P CPP project aims to develop safe methods to make biological drugs work inside cells
Last week the Matchpoint 2022 conference about "Our facinating brain" was held at Aarhus University and DANDRITE was present in large numbers, giving lectures, flash talks and chairing in numerous events.
Wen-Hsien Hou & Marco Capogna contributed to the discovery of a novel GABAergic neuron type of the mouse hippocampus associated with sharp wave ripples and memory, in collaboration with Ivan Soltesz’ group, Stanford, published in Neuron.
Assistant Prof. Azadeh Shashavar from Nissen Group is one of 7 talented young researchers to receive a fellowship from the Lundbeck Foundation. The grant enables Azadeh to establish her own research group at University of Copenhagen, where she and her team will study the structure and function of proteins that transport glycine and glutamine in the brain. Congratulations, Azadeh!
DANDRITE Team Leader Gilles Vanwalleghem studies communication between the gut and the brain, and how disruption of such can happen and affect immune function and behavior. Learn more about his research here.
Mariana Kuznietsova is new guest researcher in Poul Nissen’s group, where she will join the team working with studies of insulin receptor signaling and modulation by antagonist and agonists. Using also her recent experience from LLC Chemlaborreactiv in Kyiv and from her PhD project on insulin receptor modulators from plant, Mariana will be involved in insulin receptor purification and biochemical assays addressing the effect of co-receptors and tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The research plan includes aims of identifying well-characterized samples that can be subject to cryo-EM studies.
