New publication in Brain Pathology by Lasse Reimer
The article: "PKR kinase directly regulates tau expression and Alzheimer's disease‐related tau phosphorylation" was made in collaboration between Jensen Group and researchers from our Nordic EMBL partners in The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) in Umeå.
"In our manuscript we reveal a direct link between hyperphosphorylation of tau, a clear pathological hallmark in Alzheimer's disease and other dementing neurodegenerative disorders, and activation of the inflammation associated kinase PKR. Our findings indicate that PKR, independent of other kinases and upon acute brain inflammation, is capable of triggering pathological modulation of tau, which, in turn, might form the initial pathologic seed in dementing disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy where inflammation is severe."
