New preprint from the Sun lab: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence in Synapses

A new preprint from Sun Lab presents Synapse Gigamapper (SyGi) — a protein language model designed to predict whether proteins localize at excitatory or inhibitory synapses. SyGi identifies 152 sequence motifs linked to synaptic localization and points to over 100 new candidate synaptic proteins. The study also reports unexpected clustering of the ER-bound calcium pump SERCA at excitatory synapses, even when no ER is present.
