The project, led jointly by Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Andrea Moreno, and AI expert Subham Sahoo from the Energy Department at AAU, aims to explore how artificial intelligence can uncover hidden features of forgetting in brain data.

“When we look at large datasets, we often focus only on known variables,” Andrea Moreno explains. “But we may be missing subtle, yet important patterns—like underwater currents beneath the surface waves of the ocean. AI allows us to dive deeper, revealing these hidden dynamics that may play a crucial role in the process of forgetting.”

The scope of the collaboration goes beyond data analysis. It is part of a broader interest in how insights from neuroscience can inspire more efficient and intelligent AI systems. With this grant of DKK 150,000, we will be able to take the first step toward a potential expansion of this research area.

The partnership emerged through the Lundbeck Foundation Investigator Network and will officially begin in July, running for one year. Subham will recruit a student to work on AI-driven data analysis, while both researchers will co-supervise and steer the exploration.

Andrea Moreno is part of Sadegh Nabavi's group, an alumni DANDRITE Group Leader.
