Meet Federico Barnabà – New Masters Student in the Kitazawa Group
Please join us in welcoming Federico Barnabá, who is joining the Kitazawa Group. He comes to DANDRITE with experience from Julián Valero Moreno’s lab at Aarhus University, where he worked on designing chemically modified RNA scaffolds. In his new project, he will study how episodic memory relates to the connectivity between the two amygdalae, focusing on gene expression changes following aversive conditioning.
What research were you involved in immediately prior to joining DANDRITE, and at which institution(s)?
“Prior to joining DANDRITE, I worked in Julián Valero Moreno lab in Aarhus University for my Molecular Biology Project. My research focused on designing a chemically modified RNA scaffold able to host different proteins.”
What made you decide to join DANDRITE and move to Aarhus, Denmark?
“Neuroscience is a fascinating field of study and I wanted to deepen my understanding on how learning and memory work in our brain.”
What will you be working on, and is there anything in particular that you are especially looking forward to in your new position?
“I will join Taro Kitazawa’s lab, working with Islam as my supervisor. The project I’m involved in concerns how episodic memory is tightly related to the connection between the two amygdalae. My work will focus on looking at gene expression in the areas of the brain involved in this connection upon aversive conditioning.”
