Young cardiologist receives an Elite Researcher scholarship and travels to Boston
PhD student Tanja Charlotte Frederiksen from the Department of Clinical Medicine conducts research into heart rhythm irregularities. As a recipient of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Elite Researcher travel scholarship, she will now have the opportunity to improve her skills among the world's leading cardiology researchers.
Tanja Charlotte Frederiksen conducts research into a form of heart rhythm irregularity called atrial fibrillation, which is diagnosed in around 20,000 Danes annually. She investigates how heredity and lifestyle factors impact the risk of developing atrial fibrillation and the complications which may follow. Now she will have the opportunity to learn. collaborate and network with the very best cardiology researchers in the world. As one of only twenty recipients of the Elite Researcher travel scholarship, she will be able to spend time studying abroad.
Tanja Charlotte Frederiksen, who is also affiliated with Aarhus University Hospital, will travel to the Boston University School of Medicine, where she already collaborates with researchers from the Framingham Heart Study, who are world-leaders in research into risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Here she aims to learn more about how the correlation between heredity and environmental factors impacts on the development of atrial fibrillation, so that in the long term we can become better at preventing, diagnosing and treating atrial fibrillation and the diseases that follow.
