Welcome again to Michelle Laursen who will start as PhD-student after writing her Masters thesis in Nissen group!

She will be continuing the work on discovering the regulation mechanism of the human flippase ATP8B1. From their previous results published in eLife, they suspect ATP8B1 activity to be regulated through phosphorylation. Through Cryo-EM and biochemical assays, they wish to further explore the effect of kinase mediated phosphorylation of the terminal regions of ATP8B1. She will additionally be working on establishing expression and purification of the orphan transporter SLC12A8 to enable structural and functional studies on the pursuit of identifying the substrate of the transporter.
