Looking to the future, we see more people suffering from chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Which will put the healthcare system under pressure. This is according to Annette de Thurah, who was appointed professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the turn of the year. According to the newly-appointed professor, the future perspectives in the healthcare sector require the development of web-based solutions that ensure rapid diagnoses and effective consultations.

Annette de Thurah is one of Denmark’s few professors with a nursing background, and she conducts research into telemedicine and health service research in the field of rheumatology. One of a number of research projects in which she is involved deals with telemedicine follow-up for patients with chronic rheumatoid arthritis and web-based teaching of the same patient group. In her new professorship, she will develop new care- and treatment solutions that utilise technological opportunities without reducing quality or the involvement of the patients.
