New professor of dentomaxillofacial radiology and imaging at Health

On September 1st 2023, Rubens Spin-Neto will take up a professorship at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health. He will be conducting research into safe and diagnostically accurate imaging of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and face – the dentomaxillofacial area.

Rubens Spin-Neto was born on June 16, 1981, in Bauru, Brazil, and will assume the position of professor at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health on September 1st.

Rubens Spin-Neto works with development, applicability, and reliability of dental-dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ddMRI) to promote oral health. His research into ddMRI has the potential to improve patient safety and lead to more targeted diagnosis and treatment planning to benefit dentists, patients, and other dental care actors.

The newly appointed professor hopes that the new MRI techniques can add to, and maybe even replace some conventional radiation-based imaging methods of the dentomaxillofacial area. This would enable dentists to obtain diagnostic images of a broader range of tissues (both soft and hard tissues) that what is currenty possible, and with the major advantage that patients would not be exposed to ionizing radiotion.

"This professorship enables me to continue development of this entirely new research area, and I can help put Aarhus University on the world map as the leading university within oral radiology and imaging. This is something I'm very proud of,” says Rubens Spin-Neto.
