New professor examines the effect of diabetes technology

With new technology, diabetic patients can monitor their own glucose values and thereby better regulate their insulin dose. Klavs Würgler Hansen, who is newly appointed as professor at Aarhus University, analyses the use and effect of new diabetes technology in his research.

Living with insulin-treated diabetes can be a demanding task, one which involves monitoring glucose levels and adjusting insulin doses in relation to diet and exercise. Klavs Würgler Hansen conducts research into how intelligent insulin pumps and smart insulin pens can help diabetic patients undertake glucose measurement without this requiring a fingerstick.

He analyses what the introduction of diabetes technology means for patients and their medical doctors, respectively. The newly appointed professor, who is also affiliated with Silkeborg Regional Hospital and the Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, sees an opportunity to offer all patients, irrespective of where in the country they live, technological aids as being beneficial.

Klavs Würgler Hansen also conducts research into high blood pressure in diabetic patients and in late diabetic complications.
