Brain researcher receives the Lassen Prize
Professor Leif Østergaard from the Department of Clinical Medicine and the Center of Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN) receives the Lassen Prize for his research into methods for scanning the brain.
Scanning methods of the brain, which make an early and detailed diagnosis possible, are the focal point of Leif Østergaard's research. He has developed advanced scanning methods that show how the conditions and metabolism in the brain tissue enable the brain to repair itself after brain damage. Leif Østergaard's research has resulted in scanning methods used all over the world, particularly in connection with the treatment of patients with blood clots in the brain.
In one of his current research projects, Leif Østergaard is working on developing a scanning method that can reveal microscopic disease alterations in the brain and in this way demonstrate the causes of age impairment and dementia.
Leif Østergaard will officially receive the Lassen Prize on 7 December 2021. The award comes with a medal and a personal award of DKK 25,000.
