Novo Nordisk Foundation honours MBG-researchers for excellence in science education
DANDRITE Senior Group Leader Magnus Kjærgaard is among three lecturers from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics who are being honoured for their extraordinary contributions to science education.

Along with two research colleagues, Ditlev Egeskov Brodersen and Gregers Rom Andersen, Magnus Kjærgaard has, over several years, focused on developing the digital competencies of students at the department in collaboration with former students. This effort culminated in a publication in the international journal The Biophysicist.
This initiative is one of the key reasons why the three researchers have been awarded a prize from the Novo Nordisk Foundation this week, recognising their exceptional contributions to science education.
In addition to the title, the award includes a grant of 1.5 million Danish kroner, which will be shared between the three researchers and used to further develop the department’s teaching.
Grant aimed at new educational developments
The researchers have decided to use the funds to support teaching more broadly and, with a particular focus on biochemistry education, to enhance digital competencies across the new Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine programme.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize for Science Educators at Universities is awarded to dedicated and talented lecturers who teach scientific subjects at universities within the Danish Realm. The purpose of the prize is to acknowledge and highlight educators who, through collaboration, have made an outstanding effort to train and qualify science students at university level and have created a model of excellence that serves as an inspiration on an international scale.
The prize will be awarded at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics’ annual meeting on May 23, 2025.
