Congratulations to Gülberk Bayraktar who has started as PhD student in Poul Nissen group

During her PhD in the Poul Nissen lab, Gülberk Bayraktar will be investigating the axon initial segment of cultured hippocampal neurons and tissue combining super-resolution fluorescence imaging and cryo-electron tomography. Gülberk is interested in revealing the fine structure withholding a periodicity and consisting of myriad of proteins, and relating this ultrastructure to the function of the axon initial segment. She will particularly focus on the Na/K-ATPases and their contribution to this structural and functional segment. Another concept she will address is the axon initial segment plasticity following changes in the neuronal activity.
