Volker Berendes research interest is to understand how the nervous system generates and controls behavior on a neuronal and molecular level based on the courtship behavior of Drosophila as a model system.

The tools he will use include various behavioral assays, genetic and optogenetic manipulation of neural activity as well as confocal microscopy.
