New research assistant at DANDRITE

Oleg Sitsel has been appointed as research assistant in Keisuke Yonehara's group and Poul Nissen's group starting 1 June 2015. Oleg Sitsel will be investigating the FRMD7 (FERM domain containing 7) protein, which is known to cause idiopathic congenital nystagmus when mutated. He will be working with recombinantly produced FRMD7 to determine its structure through X-ray crystallography, identify its interaction partners via pull-down assays, and understand its mutations cause idiopathic congenital nystagmus. Although the mechanism by which FRMD7 causes the disease is not fully understood, it appears linked to the protein's putative function of modulating neuronal growth in the developing brain by regulating cytoskeletal dynamics, likely in concert with other proteins.
