Biomedicine Seminar: The necessity of neuron diversity for brain function in health and disease
Marco Capogna will give a seminar on basic concepts of neuronal circuits and neuron type diversity and essential methods of investigation such as electrophysiology, optogenetic and high resolution anatomy. Then, he will focus on the contribution of nerve cell types to cortical and amygdala brain circuits in health and in animal models of psychiatric disorders. The speaker will show that different types of GABAergic cells contribute differently to brain rhythms associated with memory, sleep and arousal. Furthermore, he will demonstrate that synaptic events elicited by various neuron types display distinct features that are critical in determining their modulation of neuronal networks. Finally, the role of neuron types in human cortical circuits will be briefly discussed.

And Professor Deniz Kirik will give a lecture entitled: "Investigating Synuclein as a Biomarker Outcome in Parkinson’s Disease". The symposium is organised by Dr. Romero-Ramos (mrr@biomed.au.dk). The invited speakers will act as opponents of Jenny–Ann Phan’s PhD defense later in the day at 13:00 at the same venue. All are welcome.

DANDRITE writing group
We work independently on a shared schedule of ~25min writing/reading (in silence) followed by a 5min talking/moving break. This time-frame is chosen to follow time management & productivity theory ideas, e.g. the Pomodoro Technique. Everybody works on their own personal writing projects (e.g. manuscripts, proposals, coding). After a few of these rounds, we may take a longer break. That's it! Some prefer to bring along headphones, others find the sound of typing/writing motivating.

3RD NORDIC NEUROSCIENCE MEETING 2019
The Nordic meeting is for all neuroscientists in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Its objectives are to facilitate interactions between neighbouring countries and establish networks for future collaborations, as well as to achieve a greater knowledge of the neuroscience carried out in this part of the world. There will be five plenary lectures and several symposia, with some running in parallel. We welcome both scientists and companies/organisations to present their work and products in poster sessions and the exhibition. The Nordic meeting is organised jointly by the Brain Research Society of Finland, the Nordic Neuroscience Special Interest Group of the Scandinavian Physiological Society and the Universities of Helsinki and Aalto. Registration to the meeting is now open.
